· Development of equation for estimating evaporation from lakes and reservoirs, evapotranspiration from wetlands and potential evapotranspiration based on field experiment and published journal papers and a book. Method is used in south Florida and other regions.
· Extreme hydrologic event analysis and reporting as high rainfall events, hurricanes, and droughts; was SFWMD source of analysis of frequency of extreme events.
· Water budget analysis for Lake Okeechobee and Lake Istokpoga;
· Hurricane impact analysis on Lake Okeechobee and publications. (Hurricane Wilma)
· Coastal storm surge analysis (Hurricane Irene).
· Developed hydrologic data quality assurance process currently in use by SFWMD.
· Worked in a team evaluating the potential of cloud seeding during extreme droughts.
· Participate in water management decision making during droughts and in Lake Okeechobee recession management.
· Was part of the Lake Okeechobee emergency management during the 1997/1998 El Nino related high lake water level.
· Evaluate NEXRAD rainfall data quality and application.
· Climate teleconnection and regional hydrology – developed ENSO (El Nino/La Nina) relations to South Florida region and Blue Nile basin hydrology and apply the model to track weekly ENSO development (journal papers and book chapters published)
· Hydrologic monitoring network design; studied and published.
Constructed Wetlands Design and Operation
· The Everglades Stormwater Treatment Areas (STAs) design reviews; examples of contribution include reducing inflow pump size for Taylor Slough STA design, storage pond addition to Nubbin Slough STA design and hydraulics of Everglades Nutrient Removal Project Test Cells.
· Rainfall and ET monitoring network design for STAs
· STAs water budget analysis, performance analysis, and permit compliance reporting and publications.
· Studied problem of passing water supply through the STAs during droughts and produced document "Hydraulic and hydrologic conditions in STA ¾ during droughts."
· Review Restoration Science Project deliverable and provide input.
· Analyze hydrologic and water quality performance of STAs and publish results.
Hydrologic System Modeling
· In early 1990s, supervised the application of SFWMD projection model for forecasting water levels for Lake Okeechobee and other water bodies (now done by Modeling Department).
· Applied WGEN model for synthetic long series rainfall data generation to study EAA hydrology, water budget and drainage generation, published results.
· Co-developed the original grid rainfall input generation for the South Florida water Management Model and document
· Led the development of the Water Budget Program which automated water budget analysis for Storm Water Treatment Areas and water bodies.
· Led the development of ETCalc program which computes ET using various methods and directly accessing input from DBHYDRO database.
· Developed reservoir simulated filling and proposed filling plan for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, size of Lake Okeechobee
· Participated in the development of EAA Makeup Water Model, analyzed makeup water.
· Reviewed and provided input into the UF-IFAS groundwater modeling project in C-111 basin.

Hydraulics
· Design Flow for S65EX1 Spillway - Analyzed and provided maximum design flow for S65EX1, adjacent to the S-65E structure at the mouth of the Kissimmee River flowing into Lake Okeechobee and participated in technical review.
· Everglades Agricultural Area hydraulics and hydrology, analysis and publication of flow.
· Everglades Nutrient Removal Project test cells hydraulic structure sizing
· C-51 Sediment Trap Flow Measurement.
· A-1 Flow Equalization Basin Seepage Study: Conducted field observation for estimating seepage form the shallow impoundment and published the result that is currently used in water budget analysis.
· Reservoir Sizing and Operation Plan: Optimal reservoir/Storage sizing for urban wastewater land application systems (Ph.D. dissertation)
· Dam design analysis, hydropower generation evaluation and initial dam filling analysis of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Ethiopia (book published).
· Generated synthetic rainfall and flow data to simulate reservoir sizing and operation.
· Evaluate dispersed water storage hydrology and hydraulics (Caulkins Water Farm).
· Review several hydraulic structures design.
· Evaluate Ten Mile Creek Reservoir hydraulics, hydrology and water quality treatment potential improvements.
Northern Everglades CERP and Other Projects Design Review
· Coordinate Water Quality Bureau design review for CERP projects and provide and compile comments (C-44 Reservoir, Lake Side Ranch STA, Southern Corkscrew Restoration DDR, C-23/25 STA-Reservoir, EAA Reservoir PMP, Ten Mile Creek Reservoir/STA, Estero Bay Watershed Assessment Phase II, DECOMP project)
· Picayune Strand Project annual hydrology analysis and reporting
· Lake Okeechobee Watershed Project PDT member
· Participate in RECOVER project and contribute hydrology section to the 5-year system report to Congress.
· Best Management Practices (BMPs)
· Worked on research on Okeechobee County Dairy BMPs research and evaluation.
· Developed research plan for Everglades Agricultural Area BMPs evaluation as part of the start of the Everglades restoration program.
· Evaluated and documented particulate fraction of total P in the EAA agricultural runoff.
Transboundary Rivers and the Nile Basin
· Has developed expertise on global water conditions, transboundary issues, and the Nile River basin (presentations, chapters, and books)
Expert Witness
· Testified as expert witness on water quality, hydrology, and water management of the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in USA vs SFWMD Lawsuit Case No. 88-1886-Civ-Moreno (2011).
· Expert witness on Everglades Agricultural Area water budget (1993).
Water Quality
· Evaluated performance of various water quality sampling methods and published results.
· Developed water quality auto-sampling method for collecting representative samples from variable flow canals and method is applied in SFWMD water quality monitoring program for regulatory compliance and published results.
· Analyzed particulate fraction of total TP in EAA runoff and publish results.
· Analyzed relations between inflows, inflow TP concentrations and Loxahatchee wildlife refuge marsh TP concentrations as expert witness for a court case.
· Produced permit reports with hydrology and water quality data evaluation for permit compliance.
· Water quality sampling
· Canal sediment sampling and load calculations in C-51 Canal.
Wetland Mitigation Evaluation and Reporting
· Evaluated performance of several wetland mitigation projects and determine regulatory compliance and generate reports.
Southern Everglades
· 8.5 Square Mile hydrology and water quality analysis and reporting.
· C-111 Spreader Canal Phase 1 Soil Water and Groundwater Monitoring for Planned S-18C Water Level Increase Project.
· Conducted deliverable review and critical input to the UF-IFAS groundwater monitoring and modeling project in South Dade.
· Water Conservation Area1 (Refugee) water quality, flow and stage analysis, District expert witness in a court case.
